Artificial intelligence at the service of artistic heritage
The Digital Delacroix project, led by Barthélémy Jobert, aims to deepen our understanding of Eugène Delacroix's work using artificial intelligence, 3D visualisation and physico-chemical analyses.
This interdisciplinary initiative, which brings together several laboratories of Sorbonne Université, sets out to develop new tools for analysing and exploring the master's work.
The project draws on a vast digital corpus comprising Delacroix's writings, paintings, drawings and prints, as well as data collected during the recent restoration of the library of the French National Assembly.
This programme is supported by the Schmidt Sciences Humanities and AI Virtual Institute (HAVI).
Around SCAI and the Centre André-Chastel, several partners have joined forces, each contributing their specific expertise and fields of excellence to the various research areas of the Digital Delacroix project.

Explore the main directions of this digital and artistic adventure, where innovation meets heritage.

Analysing the artist's writings and works to better understand his thinking

Identifying the different hands of Delacroix's workshop in the paintings of the National Assembly library

Reconstructing the Salon de la Paix, painted by Delacroix, as it stood before its destruction in 1871

Giving the broadest possible audience the chance to discover the details of Delacroix's great mural decors
To tackle the project's main challenges, the team brings together specialists in art history, artificial intelligence, scientific visualisation and materials analysis.
